Dia de los Muertos 2025 Call for Artists (4).jpg

“DIA DE LOS MUERTOS - 2025”

November 2 – 15, 2025

 CALL FOR ARTISTS

During the harvest season the Aztecs and Mayans honored their dead with celebrations and ceremonies, viewing death not as an ending, but as the beginning of the cycle of seasons and life. In southern Arizona we continue this cultural celebration with Dia de los Muertos, a time when families and friends gather to honor and remember deceased loved ones. We build altars and ofrendas for the souls of the dead, inviting them to return to visit the living families. Our annual homage to Dia de los Muertos is a traditional cultural celebration of our raices (roots) in southern Arizona and also a celebration of our gallery’s anniversary. Raices Taller 222 Art Gallery & Workshop is seeking submissions from individual artists and community groups to participate in our annual homage to Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead.  Paintings, sculpture, photography & mixed media work will be considered as well as personal tributes and remembrances in the form of altars & ofrendas.

PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING WHEN SUBMITTING WORK:

  • Dia de los Muertos is not Halloween. Submitted entries should adhere to and reflect the traditional and celebratory aspects associated with Dia de los Muertos.

  • In order to keep the celebration sincere and non-commercial, please refrain from submitting images not traditionally associated with Dia de los Muertos as celebrated in southern Arizona and Mexico. Examples of non-traditional images include photos of parades, images portraying zombie calaveras & skulls with sewn mouths as well as inappropriate images for children and families.
