"Artes de Descartes"

(Art from Discards)

We all generate items to be discarded. Think of everything you do during the day that results in empty boxes, bottles, plastic wrap, and other things you throw away. Recycled art is creative work that's made from discarded materials that once had another purpose. At its heart, recycled art is about repurposing and reusing materials. There's no limit to what kinds of materials can be used. Recycled art can be large or small. It can be two dimensional or three dimensional.

 

Raices Taller 222 Art Gallery & Workshop is looking for guest artists for our upcoming exhibition "Arte de Descartes" - an exhibition of 2 and 3 dimensional art crafted from cast off, discarded and / or repurposed materials.

ARTWORK SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

 

1. All submissions must be original works of art completed within the last two (2) years. There is no restriction on media type.

2. All artwork must include a minimum of 75% repurposed, recycled, or reclaimed materials—human-made or organic—including, but not limited to wood, metal, stone, glass, paper, fabric, and plastic, etc.

3. Work may be 2D or 3D, including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, textiles, sculpture, assemblage, pottery, collage, metalwork, installation, or functional art.

4. All work must be structurally sound, safe and suitable for gallery display and environment.

5. Wall mounted artwork should be submitted ready to hang preferably with D rings and picture wire or it will not be accepted – no sawtooth hangers accepted.

6. All 3 dimensional artwork must be complete and ready for installation. Sculpture consideration includes size, suitability for the display environment, and safety.

2 WAYS TO SUBMIT YOUR ARTWORK

1. Submit via Email:

Email high-resolution jpeg images of your work electronically to raicestaller222@gmail.com (maximum of 2 pieces for consideration) by end of day Saturday, August 15, 2026. Please send us the highest quality images you can provide to show your work in the best light.

Your email must include your name, address & telephone number. Also include title of work, medium, dimensions & price for each submission. (When pricing your work, please keep in mind that the gallery percentage is 30% of the total sale price).

 

2. Submit in Person:

Bring artwork you would like to be considered to the gallery (maximum of 2 pieces for consideration) on Monday, August 17 or Tuesday August 18, 2026 4:00 - 6:00pm both days.
