Erin Dabney

The pandemic has inspired my painting to express the unusual or magical embodiments of communication. Being furloughed and sheltering in place at home allowed me to really focus on my relationships with other living beings. During this time I came to understand my cat has developed pemphigus, an immune system disorder that causes his body to attack itself. I had to come to terms with our relatively short relationships with pets and wild animals and pay special attention to the nonverbal cues they emanate. Meditation has helped me appreciate this time of introspection and acknowledge the healing power of love, however fleeting.
