I finished "Blue Dash" at the end of March 2020, when we had been in quarantine for about two weeks.  The subject is an outtake from a larger painting.  I thought the blue was calming and the abstraction was a way to escape everyday life.  I was responding to a world suddenly turned upside down.

I finished "Two Pools" in early June 2020, the fourth month of the quarantine.  As the months wore on, I began to look for visual escapes.  I painted this swimming pool and spa — two pools — which became increasingly abstract as I worked.  This is a solitary and contained painting, the effect I think of the long months of separation from friends and family.
